David Burchfield
Mr. Burchfield graduated from Ft. Hays State University with degrees in
both Chemistry and Laboratory Biology. He then spent 5 years in
graduate school at Kansas State University studying Microbiology,
Immunology and Biochemistry. While at KSU, he was a NASA fellow and was
also funded by the Department of Defense. After graduate school he
spent time as a brewer, a food chemist, a phone company manager, and a
restaurant manager. He has taught several science courses
for colleges across Kansas and has been part of the Northfield

Sometimes you can’t get the answer. But here is where the beauty comes
in: you know there is an answer. (more)

Biology
The emphasis of this course is the investigation of life, including
sections on biochemistry, cellular biology, ecology, zoology, and
botany. Course material is delivered through open-forum lectures and
laboratories.
Capstone Biology
This is taught as a college-level course that covers biochemistry,
cellular biology, human anatomy and physiology, ecology and botany.
Weekly labs cover a wide range of biological experiments.
Chemistry
Students explore and develop the scientific thought process as it
addresses chemicals and their interactions. Students investigate
matter, elements, atomic theory, stoichiometry, and limiting reactants.
Successful completion of Algebra II is a prerequisite for this class.
Capstone Chemistry
This is a college-level course in chemistry that covers advanced atomic
theory, molecular kinetics, acid and base titrations, organic chemistry
and biochemistry. A weekly lab covering a wide variety of chemical
experiments is required.
