Community Service
Northfield students participate in week-long community service projects at the beginning and end of each academic year, in addition to our Work Wednesday program, in which students devote an entire day to the discipline and joy that comes from working for others. Our students have labored for such charitable organizations as Habitat for Humanity, which builds homes for the poor; Trees for Life, which aims to reduce world poverty; Salvation Army’s Camp Hiawatha, the Humane Society, and more.

From Old Cowtown Museum
“Your students were such a great help in the set-up of our Education Day event, as well as the musical life they brought to the grounds during the Education Day and Fair. As performers and interpreters, your students give our guests the possibility of being transported to the past, and we appreciate your efforts. We hope that we can consider your students as performers and interpreters for next year.”

From Trees for Life
“At Trees for Life, we have an ongoing stream of youth volunteers from just about every school in the Wichita area. Northfield students stand out, not only because of their ability to perform as a team, but more particularly, they perform as a team of unique individuals. These are not ordinary people.”
        — E. Marie Baker, Books for Life Coordinator, Trees for Life

On Community Service by Jim Graf, Headmaster
Community service is an opportunity for selflessness, a virtue we espouse and strive for at Northfield. It is also an opportunity for education that transpires outside the classroom, for learning the wisdom of reaching outside of yourself to those in need. We can learn a willingness both to give and to receive assistance when it's needed.
