Cheryl Hetherington
Ms. Hetherington directs the choral music program at Northfield. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Friends University and her Master of Special Music Education in 1999 from the Wichita State University.
There is very little Cheryl loves more than making music for the glory of God. A veteran music teacher of 34 years with teaching experience from early childhood to the college level, Cheryl currently conducts the Mixed Choir, an auditioned ensemble of 35-40 singers. The Choir is known for its high quality performances and has consistently received excellent ratings in Kansas competitions. A highlight of our most recent June School was a choral concert at the Old South Bruton Church in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.
In addition to the Mixed Choir, choral activities at Northfield include Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, and an hour of choral training for the entire school every Wednesday morning. As a part of Northfield’s commitment to community service, our middle school singers present programs of hymns and folk songs to the elderly and invalids in the Wichita area on Wednesday afternoons.
When Ms. Hetherington is not busy directing music groups at school and church, she enjoys reading and spending time with extended family, especially her three daughters and son-in-law, Sarah, Erin, Lauren, and Ryan.
