On History by Warren Snyder
History is a picture of the past. When we study history, we try to reconstruct the past so that we can gain insight into how we should face the future. Solomon said that there is nothing new under the sun. In other words, the problems that people face repeat themselves over the years and centuries. By studying history, we are able to analyze what people believed about God, economics, politics, and morality. We can study how problems developed, what was done to correct the problems, and the success of those efforts.
