Help Us with Midwinter Food
This year we are continuing the tradition of serving food to the student body. Because we try to ensure that there is no direct cost to the students, we are asking for your help. As always, we will accept monetary donations or food items. (Click here for more information, including a downloadable shopping list). Please do not purchase anything until consulting with Mr. Burchfield to prevent duplication of items.

Midwinter Week
Midwinter Week is five days of service, study, and performance. In 2007, Midwinter Week was devoted to a school-wide series of lectures, tutorials, and performances by acclaimed flutist Chris Norman and his ensemble, all of whom brought to Northfield the traditional music of Maritime Canada, Scotland, and Ireland, culminating in a concert at the Murdock Theatre in which student vocalists and musicians performed alongside the professionals. In 2008, American history singer-songwriter Jed Marum was in residence, bringing history to life through story and song. His concert was held at the Orpheum Theatre. Meanwhile, students engaged in hands-on work, such as creating prayer ropes, constructing bookshelves to hold our collection of the Great Books, and crafting a music mosaic for our music studio. School Administrator Becky Elder has described Midwinter Week as “an attempt to free the students from the classroom, so that they might experience in a different way the freedom and privilege of learning.”
