Northfield School of the Liberal Arts

Financial Aid

Our school is committed to working with families no matter what their financial situation.  We ask that our families and students engage in the aid given on their behalf, thereby “earning” their learning opportunity. The process looks like this:

  1. Submit the first page of your Federal 1040 tax return form, as well as a good faith list of other available assets [i.e. brokerage or savings accounts or non-penalty loans against a 401K or other retirement account etc.]

  2. Schedule a financial aid meeting to discuss your situation

  3. Submit a Financial Aid Plan that incorporates one of the NFS Earn to Learn Programs (listed below) and will achieve at least 75% of your tuition needs.

  4. Carry out your Earn to Learn pursuits over the course of the year, submitting periodic progress updates.

The Earn to Learn program engages our financial aid families in the process of earning their tuition funds through one of four avenues:

  1. Work Study Program
  2. Event/Business Management
  3. Community Sponsor
  4. NFS Scholarship

Listed below are brief explanations of the avenues the Earn to Learn program offers. For further information, please review this powerpoint presentation.

Through the Work Study Program, NFS will couple your student with a local business that offers work experience which allows them to take an active part in financing their education. Further, this opportunity allows our students to explore a number of professional environments that could inform their future career choices.

“The tall stoop and the small stretch” – this is a theme of Northfield School. Through our Community Sponsor Program, we invite the "tall" members of our community, financially capable of fostering our educational efforts, into our work at the school.

If you are a member of our community that desires to sponsor a student, please click the button below to learn more about our sponsor program.

Families willing to manage event/business ventures alongside the school can do so while the profits feed directly into their tuition needs. This is a personal opportunity for families to be creative, tailoring their fundraising approach to the resources and communities they have at hand.

This is a merit based scholarship, annually awarded to the students who prove the most academically engaged throughout their year at NFS. The students will be selected by a rotating board of four people, selected annually from the faculty and board of Northfield School.
